Ashkan Salim
Analyst Frankfurt, Germany June 2025

Over the past five years, the German satellite communications industry's revenue performance has been negative overall, mainly due to a pandemic-related exceptional increase in revenue in 2020 and the subsequent return to normal levels. The coronavirus pandemic led to increased demand for digital infrastructure and media use, for example through increased working from home, e-learning and higher TV consumption, which resulted in a temporary increase in revenue. Between 2020 and 2025, industry revenue fell by an average of 6.6% per year to EUR 429.4 million. Despite continued high revenues from the television business, the range of services offered increasingly shifted towards network services for companies and public authorities. At the same time, the industry continued to be characterised by high investment costs and significant barriers to market entry for new providers, leading to strong market concentration.
