High electricity prices keep energy management central to business strategy
- Electricity remains one of the largest cost pressures for sauna and solarium facilities, which rely on continuous heat and lighting. The average non-domestic electricity price fell by 7% to 23.8 pence per kWh in 2024, while the rate including the Climate Change Levy reached 24.3 pence per kWh, according to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Trends and Insights
Water bill increases are expected to raise utility costs for wellness facilities
- Water and wastewater charges are set to rise over the coming years, increasing utility costs for sauna and spa facilities. Ofwat forecasts that average household and business water bills in England and Wales will increase by £31 per year between 2025 and 2030 in real terms. The regulator’s Price Review 2024 (PR24) decides how much money water companies can charge customers and how much they must spend on improving their networks from 2025 to 2030. The plan allows major investment to upgrade pipes and treatment plants, which will push up the water and wastewater bills paid by households and businesses by 35% for Thames Water and 53% for Southern Water over that period, according to Ofwat. These increases will raise commercial water charges as companies pay for cleaner supplies and reduced leakage.
