The French Textile, Clothing and Leather Processing Machinery Manufacturing industry has faced adversity in recent years, as a weak home market has offset new orders from recycling and specialist niches. Most output is exported, so the manufacturers depend on textile mills abroad, and those mills' investment cycles fell sharply in 2024. The ITMF reported that worldwide short-staple spindle shipments dropped 40% to 5.92 million units that year, cutting orders for volume cotton-spinning equipment. French manufacturers were cushioned because their strength is long-fibre preparation for wool, flax and technical yarns, the one spinning line that grew, up about 60% to 600,000 units, the ITMF states, so their order books held up better than the headline slump suggests. A newer source of orders has come from recycling machinery, after the EU made separate textile collection compulsory from January 2025 and producer-funded recycling followed in October 2025, creating a market for the sorting and tearing lines that the industry's manufacturers build. Over the five years through 2026, industry revenue has risen at a compound annual rate of 0.2% to reach €1.7 billion, with revenue dipping 0.3% in 2026
